2023 Black History Month Celebration: Jazz and the Civil Rights Movement

Please join SUNY Empire students, alumni, staff and friends at the NYC location for a presentation on "Jazz and the Civil Rights Movement" by Joseph Washington, Professor Emeritus.

This free event is sponsored by the BMI student club. Throughout the talk we will listen to quintessential studio recordings of jazz music and engage in a discussion about the importance of jazz during this critical time in American History. Some of the key figures we will listen to include: Billie Holiday, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus as well as several others.
